Surprisingly one of the easiest ways to reduce electricity use is by doing things that don't cost any money. This is one of the most effective ways all of us can put more money in our pockets by reducing electricity bills and hence make a small contribution towards reducing CO2 emissions. It is also a very good way of minimising the effects of steep rises in electricity costs.
Most of us don't have large amounts of spare time to work out the best ways to reduce electricity costs. Reducing the cost of lighting can also be achieved by maximising natural light by using light colours in rooms and making sure blinds and curtains are fully open. The position and type of lights can also have a major effect on how effective lighting is, avoid the use of dark coloured shades and place movable lamps where they will provide the most effective light.
