Energy Use Reduction Projects

Having reached the point where most of the obvious changes have been implemented I am now looking at a number of projects and ideas for the future which I will link to on these pages as they are implemented.

To Save Heat
Increasing loft insulation thickness.
Further work draught proofing of doors.
Increasing insulation on central heating pipes.
Fitting a more efficient boiler.
Using waster heat from the boiler.

To Save Electricity
Rewiring the TV distribution system to enable one amplifier to be off when the main TV is off.
Powering the central heating via an inverter and battery combination charged on cheap rate electricity.
Powering some items via an inverter and battery combination charged on cheap rate electricity.
Reducing the central heating pump flow rate.

To Save Water
An automatic pond filler fed from rainwater storage.
Increasing the storage of rainwater.
Filling downstairs toilets partially from rainwater.
Fitting pressure reduction valves on some taps or possibly one valve for the whole house.

As part of these projects I am carrying out detailed surveys which should be complete by the end of 2006.
