House 1 - Summary Of Oil Savings

Oil Use Graph

This graph shows how oil use has varied over the last few years. Serious efforts to save heat (and oil) only started in the middle of 2005. Up until then I had implemented a lot of the Simple Tips in an unstructured way and still managed to save a fair bit of oil. I didn't carry out a proper survey until the second half of 2006. The results are presented on an annual basis as the results for individual months are extremely variable. The 2007 figures show only a small improvement over 2006 probably due to the fact that further gains will only come with more investment. The improvement in 2008 while small is very pleasing in that during part of this period I was working from home for part of the time meaning the heating was used around 10% more than normal. The improvements are due I think to much improved loft insulation.

Percentage Oil Saving Grapg

This graph shows the percentage oil saving by comparing annual periods starting in October with the period October 2003 to September 2004. The 2004/5 savings are mainly due to turning down the heating a few degrees. The 2005/6 savings are related to improved draught proofing in a large hall, totally re balancing the whole heating system and flooring more of the loft. The small 2006/7 savings come from improved draught proofing. The 2008 savings come from improved loft insulation and are despite increased winter use of the heating system.
