House 2 - Summary Of Electricity Cost Savings
This chart shows how electricity cost has varied since we moved in to house number two. The short term variations are due to usage changes caused by the number of people in the house. Currently we are on a single tariff so there is no night time rate. The chart is relative to the same electricity use between January 2010 to January 2011 without the changes made in 2009 and 2010. Electricity use will be higher in the winter mainly because of increased use of lights and the central heating. The short term variations are caused the number of people in the house at any one time. The large dips in August are due to holidays, other large peaks are due to visitors.. The very large peak in December 2010 was caused by excessively cold temperature (-19C) when emergency electric heating was used in the chicken house and greenhouse for a few days. The orange trend line shows a reduction in electricity cost despite all the price rises over the last few years.

The chart below shows the percentage cost reduction. The savings shown in this chart are relative to the same electricity costs between January 2010 to January 2011 without the changes made in 2009 and 2010. The savings of over 25% in electricity cost shown by the orange trend line are similar to the savings made in our first house. Over 2013 we are unlikely to see further savings as the cost of electricity continues to rise and offset the savings in electricity use.
