To Set Up A Computer To Minimise Energy Use
Windows 2000
Right click on an empty area of the desktop and select <Properties> from the menu.
Select the <Screen Saver> Tab.
Select any screen saver from the list except none (to enable the Password Protected checkbox).
Check the <Password Protected> box (To maintain security).
Set the screen save <Wait> time to 15 minutes.
Click on the <Power> button to display the Power Options tabs.
Select the <Power Schemes> tab.
Set <Turn Of Monitor> to 10 minutes.
Set <Turn Off Hard Disks> to 10 minutes.
Set <System Hibernates > to 20 minutes
(If hibernate is missing from the tab select the <Hibernate> tab and enable hibernate support and then return to the Power Schemes tab).
Select the <Advanced> tab and make sure <Prompt for Password When The Computer Goes Of Standby> is checked.
Click <OK> to save the settings to the Power Options.
Click <OK> to save and close Display Properties.
WIndows XP
Right click on an empty area of the desktop and select <Properties> from the menu.
Select the <Screen Saver> Tab.
Select <Blank> from the screen saver list.
Check the <On Resume, Password Protected> box (To maintain security).
Click on the <Power> button to display the Power Options tabs.
Select the <Power Schemes> tab.
Set <Turn Of Monitor> to 10 minutes.
Set <Turn Off Hard Disks> to 10 minutes.
Set <System Hibernates > to 20 minutes
(If this line is missing from the tab select the <Hibernate> tab and enable hibernate support and then return to the Power Schemes tab).
Select the <Advanced> tab and make sure <Prompt for Password When The Computer Goes Of Standby> is checked.
Click <OK> to save the settings to the Power Options.
Click <OK> to save and close Display Properties.
Windows Vista
Select <Control Panel> from the Start Menu.
Select <Power Options>.
Click on <Change Plan Settings> for the power plan you are using.
Set <Turn Of The Display> to 10 minutes.
Click on <Advanced Power Settings>.
Set <Require Password On Wake Up> to yes (To maintain security).
Click on <Hard Disk>
Set <Turn Off Hard Disk After> to 10 minutes.
Click on <Sleep>
Click on <Hibernate>.
Set <Hibernate
After> to 20 minutes.
Click <OK> to exit the advanced power options tab.
Click <Save
Changes> to save the changes..
Windows 7
Select <Control Panel> from the Start Menu.
Select <Power Options>.
Click on <Change Plan Settings> for the power plan you are using.

Click on <Advanced Power Settings>.
